Tommee Tippee Explora Feeding Products Review

I was very excited to have an opportunity to review three of the Tommee Tippee Explora Feeding products as part of being a member of the Mom Bloggers Club.  Tommee Tippee sent three products to review: a spill proof water bottle, a weaning bowl with spoon, and a non slip easy mat.

I reviewed all three of these products with my 17 month old daughter (although my 2 1/2 year old daughter has also used all of the products because she just can't resist anything that is pink!).  To be honest, I was a little nervous to review the spill proof water bottle with my younger daughter because she has proven to be VERY picky with her sippy cups.  It took me over 3 months to find her the "perfect" cup - you know, one that she would actually drink out of!  But I was very excited when she took this water bottle rather quickly.  I think she liked how it was very similar to her older brother and sister's cups so she thought she was being a "big girl"!   As her mom, the things that I liked about it were:
  • it is BPA free
  • it was actually spill proof!  The cup ended up on both my couch and in my car and we didn't have any leaks :)
  • it is super easy to clean - I'm so tired of fancy spouts and attachments and straws to keep track of for all of our sippy cups in the house - this just has one piece that pops in and out very easily!

The weaning bowl with spoon was a very cool product!  The bowl is good size bowl for a toddler and includes a spill proof top (where the spoon attaches too).  And the way the spoon attaches to the top, the part of the spoon that goes in the baby's mouth is covered, so it's perfect for on-the-go moms and dads!  I always hated when I would be so organized to pack my kids' lunches before heading out for the day, only to realize at lunch time I forgot the kids' spoons (you know, the ones that actually fit in their mouths?).  With this contraption, I am guaranteed to always have their spoon on hand :)

And when you are at home (I say this because I'm not really that organized where I would ever remember to bring along this in my diaper bag), the weaning bowl can be used with the non slip easy mat to help keep your baby's bowl on the table.  The mat is a rubbery type material and when you lay it out on your table, the mat sticks to it so your child cannot pick it up and spill everything that is on it.  I know I stopped using placemats on our kitchen table because it drove me crazy when one of the kids would grab a corner of it and then everything went flying (plates, bowls, cups, etc.)!  The top of the easy mat has a suction cup that can be used to hold the weaning bowl in place (so baby can't knock over the bowl).  I've read that the easy mat will work with most other brands of bowls and plates too, but I didn't try it.

So how did this work at our house?  It worked okay.  I used it for my 17 month old and the first day she had a bowl of cereal with the bowl attached to the easy mat and it worked great.  She tried to tip over her bowl but wasn't successful.  By day 2 though, she had it figured out and was able to get the bowl detached from the mat.  Lucky for me though, she wasn't really interested in trying to figure it out until she was almost done eating (so messes were not as bad as they could be!).  I think this product would be great for someone younger, but at her age, she is stronger and able to pull them apart.  I would definitely still recommend this product for someone with a baby at a younger age who is looking for something to help them to get their baby to eat more independently.

So are you wondering where you can get your hands on some of these products for your little ones?  Tommee Tippee feeding products are now available at Toys "R" Us and Babies "R" Us as well as online at BabiesRUs.com.  Also, if you shop before the end of today (July 23rd), all Explora items (cups and toddler feeding) are buy 1 and get the second 50% off online at Babies "R" Us

What Makes a Great Mommy?

My son had summer camp this past week - he will be starting preschool this fall and we thought it would be good for him to have a week of camp to try to get used to it (since he's been home with me for almost 3 years now). He seemed excited to go and have the opportunity to play with kids his age instead of his 2 little sisters all the time. Of course, wouldn't you know, he came home the first day and was sick (so had to miss the second day).  Camp was only 4 days so I felt bad that he had to miss a day.  On the 3rd day, he went back to camp.  While he was there, I took the girls to our weekly library storytime.  I had a feeling that my son might feel bad that he missed out on storytime this week, so I made a point to pick out a few dinosaur books for him to read when he got home.

So when I picked up my son from summer camp and we got to the car, he saw a pile of books on the seat and my daughter's arts & craft project and asked what was there.  I explained we had gone to the library and told him that since he couldn't come this week, I picked up a few dinosaur books for him (and one that was about a dinosaur who was sick and trying to feel better - just like he was the day before).  My son then looked up at me with a huge smile, gave me a hug and responded "that is why you are the greatest mommy! thank you!"

So if you are wondering how you can be the greatest mommy out there, according to my son, it only requires you picking up a few books for him at the library while he's at summer camp :)

Green Beans!

I was starting to get a little discouraged with my vegetable garden the other day.  The kids and I planted tomatoes, zucchini, cucumber, peppers, and green beans (the green beans my daughter actually did from seeds at an Earth Day festival we went to).  That was the one vegetable that we weren't planning to grow this year.

Our garden is actually all being grown in pots this year - so I was really wondering how they were going to come out.  Although all of the plants look like they are doing well, my husband keeps teasing me saying that the real test will be whether we actually get any vegetables out of them :)

So can you imagine the huge smile on my face the other day when I saw this......

I was practically jumping up and down!  And yes, the first veggies were actually the green beans.  There were only 4 out there, but now I can officially say that my plants produced some veggies for us!

Happy 4th of July!

I hope everyone had a very fun 4th of July!!!  We did over here - we've been super busy over the past week so I kind of neglected my blog :(

Anyway, I'll fill you in our fun we had last week another time - for now I'm gonna share some of our 4th of July activities.....

Here  is the cheesecake I made for our picnic with my husband's side of the family....it was a new recipe I tried and it came out delicious....and the berries on top were handpicked by the kids the day before :)

(not sure why, but this picture refuses to rotate for me)

We missed the fireworks this weekend, so improvised and let our 2 older kids hold some Sparklers!  They had a blast!

And here is the baby running around the yard sporting her patriotic shirt - too bad she thought it was hilarious to run away from me everytime I took the camera out so you can't see the flag on the front!

So what did you do this past weekend?
