My Bathing Suit Times Three

In 2006, after baby #1, I traded in my cute little bikini for a more practical bikini (i.e.: something that wouldn’t easily expose myself when my son pulled on it or played with it!)

In 2007, after baby #2, I traded in that “practical” bikini for a tankini (my daughter wasn’t as nice to me while in my belly and caused me some stretch marks I decided to keep hidden). I really did love that tankini – and got to wear it maybe 4 or 5 times before it became too small while baby #3 was in me…

It’s now 2009, baby #3 came back in January and I turned 30 in April. Even though I am practically back to my pre-pregnancy weight, the tankini is not working for me - I'm overflowing in the top and the bottoms keep sliding down while swimming. Sadly, I think it’s time to turn in that bathing suit for something else … a one piece? I never thought I would buy myself a one piece – but is that what happens after 30 years and 3 kids?

Great Giveaways This Week!

So I was planning on doing this post over the weekend, but then just never got around to it. Washing Hands - Having a Whale of a Time!

I really shouldn’t complain – my 2 older kids love to wash their hands! But I’m going to complain anyway. Here is the scene I usually encounter at least a few times a day:

I hear some yelling about who is supposed to wash hands first. When I arrive at the bathroom, I have a 3 ½ year old and 2 year old both trying to squeeze onto an Elmo stool while reaching their arms out as far as they can to see whose hands fit under the faucet the best. I offer to help, but their independent selves state they don’t need my help. Then one of them spots the liquid soap dispenser full of diluted Dr. Bronner’s soap (I say this for those of you that use this soap – you know how watery it can be!). Whoever grabs it first, pumps it a few times, and completely misses their hands. They don’t realize and pass it on to kid #2. Kid #2 pumps it and misses as well. Kid #1 realizes their hands aren’t getting soapy so they want the soap dispenser back. Now I’m asked to help (are you wondering when they will realize they should just take my help from the get-go – because I sure am!). When all is said and done – the counter is covered with water and soap! It is dripping down the cabinet and on the floor! Their clothes are all wet! And if you even try to pick up the soap dispenser, it is so slippery with soap, it just slips out of your hands. But, let’s remember, thank goodness their hands are clean : )

And let’s not forget the time I asked the older kids to wait one minute before washing hands so I could finish changing the baby’s diaper. I walked into the bathroom and see that my daughter had listened to me (yay!) and did not turn the water on to wash her hands. But, she figured she could get a jump start on her bath and wash her hair!

Needless to say, I needed to find a solution to this wet, soapy mess in the bathroom!

My solution – Kiss My Face – A Whale of a Soap! This has got to be the best soap for kids that I have found! My kids love it because the soap is in the shape of a whale and it has an orange scent. I love it for so many reasons:

  • It is 100% natural and biodegradablee

  • It has no artificial colors or fragrances

  • No parabens

  • The package comes with 2 bars of soap – 1 for each child!!

  • Because of the unique shape, the bars do not slip out of the kids hands very easily

  • No more liquid soap all over the place!

  • The cosmetic safety database ranked it with a hazard score of only a 1

If your kids love whales (or any kind of fish or animals) like my kids do, they will love this soap! I haven’t bought trays yet for their soap to sit on, so here are their whale soaps sitting on some extra cloth wipes for now.

Note: I was not asked to do this review by Kiss My Face or anyone else. I did not receive any free products or compensation for this post. I bought this item myself and really liked it so wanted to share with others who may be interested.

Theta Mom Thursday - Dinner Out

So it is finally here - Heather's first Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday! Heather has challenged all of us moms to try to grab one hour each week to do whatever we want (sounds easy, right) BUT without any kids (yes, that can get a little tougher...). I decided to join in on the fun because I thought this was such a great idea! So here is my first Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday:

I really lucked out for my first week of Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday! Not only was I able to get an hour to myself without the kids, but I actually ended up getting away for almost 5 hours! Friends of mine that I used to work with (before I changed careers and traded in my calculator for diapers) and I have been trying to get together for awhile (without kids). It just never seemed to work out with everyone’s schedules. Finally though, this past Friday night, 7 of us were able to meet up for a delicious dinner!

I won’t bore you with the insanity that preceded my night out! I’ll just let you know that trying to shower with 3 kids that cannot coordinate a nap schedule if their lives depended on it + actually blow-drying my hair + putting on make-up + getting dressed into something nice = CRAZY! If I remember correctly, not one of my kids seemed upset when I went to leave. I’m going to interpret that as they were just too excited for their Daddy to walk in the door while I was walking out!

But all of that craziness in my house beforehand was so worth it! My dinner was delicious, my glass of wine well deserved, and the conversation delightful! I am able to get together with a few of these friends every few weeks or so as our kids are around the same ages. Most times I feel bad afterwards because I feel like I never really got to talk with them. There are days where every conversation we start never gets finished. On Friday night though, the only time we were interrupted was by the waiter, who was just coming over to serve us (so I can’t really complain about that!). So thanks to all my friends for a wonderful night out! And a big special thanks to my hubby for coming home (when he really need to stay later at work) to take care of the kids so I could get some “me” time!

I'm not sure what I will plan for this next week, but I am so looking forward to it!

Time Magazine - 30 Years Ago

Do you know what was on the cover of Time Magazine the week you were born? I didn't, but became intrigued when I saw a tweet from my library the other day on twitter with a link. With all three kids napping, I decided to forego mopping my floors to find out what was in the issue of Time the week I was born - over 30 years ago!

I thought it was rather coincidental that as I was typing up my post on how I would like to wash cloth diapers 30 years from now, I was able to look back and see what the headlines were 30 years ago. The latest issue of Time Magazine the day I was born was Volume 113, No. 14 - that was the issue that came out on April 2, 1979.

One headline that caught my eye was titled "Pregnancy Kits". What could a pregnancy kit be? Well, it is what we all know very well as a pregnancy test! Those things that readily available in pharmacies, grocery stores, walmarts, etc. - with so many brands to choose from! Back in April of 1979, the over the counter pregnancy tests had only been on the market in the U.S. for a little over a year. You needed to wait 9 days after your missed period to take it, and then it took 2 hours for the test to give you the results of whether you were pregnant or not. I just never really thought about what it would be like trying to conceive without those convenient pregnancy tests.

Nowadays, you can take them before you even miss your period. And it is only a matter of seconds before you know the results. Is it just me, or do you love how there is always some brand that offers a free 3rd test when you buy the 2 pack? For each baby of mine, I was never satisfied with just 1 test - I always had to repeat to make sure it was accurate. What would I have done if I had to wait for a doctors appointment to find out? I think I would have driven myself (and my husband) crazy! It makes me think, what do we not have such easy access to now that in 30 years from our now, our kids are going to wonder how we got by without it?

How I Want to Wash Cloth Diapers

Dirty Diaper Laundry is hosting today The Cloth Diaper Carnival Part Deux! Unfortunatly I wasn't able to participate the first time around, so was looking forward to today's events! For Part Deux, the question was "What is your wash routine?". Rather than go on about how I currently wash my diapers, I started thinking about how I thought my daughters might wash my grandkids diapers...

August 24, 2039

While at my daughter’s house the other day I offered to help her wash her kids cloth diapers. She had a lot going on with my grandkids and she said it was the last thing in the world she really wanted to do at the moment. Seeing as I cloth diapered her and her sister, I didn’t mind in the least. Let me tell you, I was amazed at how much has changed in the past 30 years when it comes to washing our lovely cloth diapers!

All of the dirty diapers were sitting in the diaper pail in the bathroom next to the kids’ rooms. It was a diaper pail like I have never seen before – a dark blue & stainless steel container that coordinated with her washing machine perfectly! I noticed this odd looking latch on the side, but didn’t think too much of it. I carried it over to my daughter’s solar powered washing machine, opened the top and was about to start the dumping the diapers into the washing machine. My daughter must have suspected I would do something wrong, and came running over to stop me.

“Mom, what are you doing?” she says to me.

“Putting the dirty dipes into the washing machine.” I reply.

“But you don’t have to do that. Sit the diaper pail onto that ledge next to the washing machine. Then plug in the hose from the washing machine to the diaper pail. When you do that, just hit cloth diaper cycle on the washing machine, and it will suck all the diapers out of the pail into the washing machine. It even does a little spray in the pail to rinse it out.”

I think my eyes almost bugged out of my head! Was she for real? I proceeded to ask her about detergents – what to use and how much. It turns out there is not much to that either. When she purchases cloth diaper detergent (30 years later, she is still using the detergent that I will try for the first time next week – Rock ‘N Green detergent), she pours it into the detergent compartment on the washing machine. Then when she picks her wash cycle, the machine lets out the premeasured amount of detergent needed for a cloth diaper cycle.

Once the diapers are in the machine and it’s set for a cloth diaper cycle, the machine does an automatic cold wash followed by one rinse and then a hot wash followed by 2 rinses (at least it looks like something has remained the same over these years). It turns out that so many people finally did the switch to cloth that it is now pretty standard in almost everyone’s house. I was amazed, thinking back to when I first started cloth diapering in 2008, where the only way I was able to meet other moms who also used cloth was over the internet! Now washing machines were made with special cycles just for cloth diapers – who would have thought?!!

When the washing machine beeped a little while later, I double checked with my daughter about how she wanted them to be dried. I certainly didn’t want to do anything “barbaric” as I did before by just dumping the dirty ones into the washing machine. Turns out, nothing has really changed in the past 30 years when it comes to drying your diapers – a good clothesline and a little sun was all that was needed!

Now back to reality…
There is nothing special to my wash routine. I do laundry every other day here with my 2 girls in cloth. I usually soak overnight in the washing machine in cold water and some washing soda. When I wake up in the morning, I rinse and then run a hot wash cycle. After 2 rinses, the diapers are ready to be dried. If it is nice out, they go outside to line dry. If it’s not nice out (lately it’s been so humid outside so I have skipped the line dry except for stains) they go in the dryer. Overall, I do not mind washing diapers at all. I find them to be the easiest loads of laundry I do all week! But there are times when I forget to hold my breath long enough to dump the dirty diapers into the washing machine - I get a whiff of pee & poop and wish I had the system I have invented for my daughters 30 years from now.

Zucchini Bread Recipe

With my whole house asleep tonight, I decided to bake some zucchini bread. If you grow your own zucchini in your yard, this is a perfect time of year to start making some bread with some of the leftovers. While I am waiting for it finish baking, I thought I would share my recipe. It's a recipe I've had for awhile that I got from my mom, who got from my neighbor (but not sure where it came from before that...)

Zucchini Bread (makes 2 loaves)

Ingredients:

3 eggs

1 cup oil

2 1/2 cups sugar

2 cups grated raw zucchini (or you can cheat and just put in food processor - that's what I do!)

2 tsp. cinnamon

1/4 tsp. baking powder

1 tsp. baking soda

3 cups whole wheat flour

pinch of cloves

Directions:

1) Grease & flour bread pans (or use the baking oil spray to make it easier). Preheat oven to 350.

2) Beat eggs until foamy.

3) Graduallly add oil & sugar, alternatively. Beat well.

4) Add grated zucchini, cinnamon, baking powder, baking soda, cloves. Mix well.

5) Gradually add flour. Mix well.

6) Pour into pans. Bake for 1 hour.

7) Cool 10 minutes in pans. Remove from pan and continue cooling on wire rack.

Here are the loaves I just took out of the oven...

I hope you enjoy!

Aloha Friday!

It's Aloha Friday over at An Island Life!!!!
Answer my question here, post one on your blog, and then relax - it's Friday!

Last night everyone in my house fell asleep early (including my husband) so I had a few hours by myself. I baked some zucchini bread, folded some laundry, cleaned my kitchen, and worked on some blog posts. While cleaning the kitchen, it reminded me of a conversation I recently had with one of my girlfriends. We couldn't understand how our husbands were okay with going to bed at night with dirty dishes in the sink.
For me, I love waking up to a clean kitchen and an empty sink. I feel like I am starting my day off with a fresh start. When I wake up to a sink full of dishes, I feel like I am behind the 8 ball before I even get breakfast.
For my husband, he feels like they are dirty and will cleaned eventually. What is the difference if done tonight or tomorrow morning?

So my question for Aloha Friday is - clean them tonight or wait until tomorrow (they aren't going anywhere!)?

Time Out for Theta Mom Thursday!

Heather at Theta Mom came out with a great idea - let's all make a point at setting aside some time for us mom's each week for ourselves! As her and her husband have discussed it as: "transition time". Each week, out goal is to find 1 hour for ourselves. Sounds easy, right? I know, it may actually end up being harder than it sounds, but at least we can try!!!

So after you find your hour, make sure to visit Theta Mom on Thursday and share with all the other moms out there how you spent your hour. Heather's first Time Out For Theta Mom starts next week, so start working out your schedules and find that hour to yourself!

Fluff Talk Thursday: Why Cloth?

Beth over at Happily Domestic just started a new meme – Fluff Talk Thursday! Seeing as my family uses cloth diapers, I thought it would be fun to join in . This week's topic is: “Why Cloth?”

When I first started this blog, I had written a post about why I used cloth. At the time, I didn’t have many followers (or any!) so I thought I would participate today with Happily Domestic’s Fluff Talk Thursday.

I started using cloth diapers during the summer of 2008 with my daughter. I had been battling diaper rashes with her for a few months and had tried various things – different brands of diapers, different brands of wipes, various diaper ointments, etc. It was around the time of Earth Day and there were so many specials on the television and various posts/articles online listing many ways that all of us could be more green. One article (I have no idea what one at this point) caught my attention by mentioning cloth diapers (and how most babies who use cloth have less diaper rashes). My first thought was that they had to be kidding, right? Who used cloth diapers?

Well, the answer to that is: so many moms out there use cloth! I had just never met one before. So that day, I think I sat on the computer for hours after the kids went to bed doing lots of research. I was amazed (and oh so overwhelmed!) at the different kinds of diapers, all the different brands, the colors, so many stores to choose from, and the list could go on! But the more I read about cloth diapers, the more I was convinced I wanted to use them. After discussing it with my husband, who was not too keen on the idea, we settled on me ordering a starter package with 6 indian prefolds, a bummis super whisper wrap and 1 snappi for me to try it out. I received my starter package in June 2008 and within a week I order more diapers to keep me going for 3 or 4 days before I needed to do laundry.

Overall, I am very happy that I made the switch to the cloth diapers. We do not use them exclusively in our house - my husband keeps some disposables in the house for when he’s home with the kids and I also use disposables on my older daughter when we go out if I have a good feeling she is going to poop soon (that has just been easier for me). My daughter’s diaper rashes have gotten so much better (she rarely gets them while in cloth), I feel like I am doing the healthier thing for my kids and the better thing for the environment. And the added bonus – using cloth diapers is so much cheaper than disposables!

Now, head on over to Happily Domestic and read why Beth started to use cloth diapers. And if you use cloth or plan on using cloth, join in on the Fluff Talk today : )

Wordless Wednesday - A Siblings' Love

This was a picture I got of my two older kids the day we brought home our new baby. Big Brother and Big Sister were so adorable and in complete awe of their new little sister!

Bridal Shower Invites - My Latest Project

If you've noticed I may not have been blog hopping as much lately and leaving comments on your blogs, it's because I've been working very hard this past week on the invitations to my future sister-in-law's bridal shower. I finished them yesterday and got them into the mail today - yay!!! I was very happy with how they came out, so thought I would share my finished product (I blocked out the details since I figured I didn't need to post on the Internet the details of where & when the shower is):

This is only one sample - I had made 25 invitations with 6 different backgrounds. This one pictured though was my favorite! We are doing a kitchen themed shower for her and will be providing her with a recipe book the day of her shower. All of the invitations had some sort of kitchen illustration - utensils, bake ware, coffee mugs, etc.

I got the paper at Jo-Ann Fabrics in the scrapbook section. I was in luck and found a large pad of scrapbook paper titled "Kitchen"! So I was able to use a bunch of the sheets and cut them down to 5x7 size. I also bought translucent paper to print the invitation wording onto. The translucent paper I cut down to a size slightly smaller than 5x7. The sheets of paper were then attached by coordinating ribbon. I forgot to take a picture of the back of the invitation - where I had stamped it "Handmade with Love".

I'm not sure if making the invitations myself saved me any money, but they were a lot of fun to make! I had been looking around for awhile for an invitation, but couldn't find one that I really liked. So this was a great way to make exactly what I wanted!

A Diaper Sprayer Lesson: Life Is Too Short

CC button

When I first entered the cloth diapering world, everyone told me that I should definitely get a diaper sprayer. The biggest advantage was to avoid having to dunk the poopy diapers into the toilet. I was hesitant to buy one at first though because I wasn't sure if I would stick it out and cloth diaper for the long term. I started cloth diapering a year ago with my daughter who was then around 9 months old. So a year has past and my daughter is almost 2 and I have another daughter who is 6 months old. And until this past weekend, I still didn't have a diaper sprayer.

Now that my baby has started solids though, I felt that I was going to the toilet for a dunk too many times in one day for my liking. I thought it would be a great idea to make my own diaper sprayer (there are many tutorials out there) and then do a post on how easy it is (or so all the other blog posts say out there!). My husband kept telling me to just order one, but I didn't really want to spend that much money. Plus, he is very handy around the house, so I figured if I I got really stuck, I could always get some help from him. Well, if you are considering making your own diaper sprayer, please read on. I really wish someone had given me this advice last week!

Unless you are a plumber, do not bother making it yourself! Unless you enjoy doing plumbing work, do not bother making it yourself! Unless you enjoy going back and forth to Home Depot (and Lowe's for when Home Depot doesn't have the part you need) four times on a Sunday morning, do not bother making it yourself! Unless you enjoy having your husband take over and then go on to huff & puff frustrations with some not so nice words being mumbled under his breath, do not bother making it yourself! If you think that it will save you money to make it yourself, think again!!!!!!!!

Long story short, I didn't make it too far in the bathroom before my husband came in and took over the job (turns out I bought a wrong part). Oops! A few more wrong parts ended up being purchased throughout the rest of the morning (and good thing we didn't realize that until we already openned the package, so no returns for us!). After 2 1/2 hours, 4 additional trips to the hardware store, and almost $40 spent, I FINALLY have an AWESOME diaper sprayer put together for me from my AWESOME hubby!

As my husband walked out of the bathroom yesterday, all he could say was "Jackie, there are certain things that it just makes so much more sense to buy. Life is too short for me to waste my Sunday morning around the toilet." I couldn't agree more! So here are a few links of some diaper sprayers that I have heard good things about:

The Diaper Sprayer
The Potty Pail Diaper Sprayer
bumGenius Diaper Sprayer

Now, head on over to Mama Kenz Studio and read more Chic Cheeks posts - this week she is focusing on GroBaby diapers!

My No 'Poo Experiment

Yes, I am going to go for round 2 and try to go "no 'poo" again.

When I first heard of "no 'poo" about a year ago, the first thought that came through my head was no more changing poo diapers!! As a mom that has had 2 kids in diapers for about 2 years now, you can probably understand why that would be on my mind. There are days when I feel all I do is change diapers (and more with poo in them that I would like to admit!)

But in all seriousness, "no 'poo" has nothing to do with dirty diapers. It is actually going shampoo-less. That's right, not using shampoo anymore! And why would I do such a thing? There are many reasons actually - avoid chemicals, it's healthier, less waste, and cheaper!

Avoiding Chemicals: There are so many harmful chemicals in many of the common brands of shampoos found at your local drugstore or grocery store. If you are ever curious about how harmful (or safe) your current personal care products are, you can always visit Skin Deep: Cosmetic Safety Database website. This website is a database of thousands of personal care items (shampoo, conditioner, lotion, shaving cream, bubble bath, sunscreen, etc.) that are evaluated by the researchers at the Environmental Working Group to determine the safety of these products. Based on the ingredients in the particular product, the product is given a safety rating on a scale of 0-10. O being the lowest rating while 10 being the highest. If you haven't been to this website before, I would strongly suggest heading over there and taking a look around. It is extremely interesting (and scary) to read about the various different ingredients that are in so many common name brand items and what types of health effects they could have on you or your children.

It's Healthier: Your body produces oil naturally to condition your hair and help keep it healthy. When you use shampoo on a daily basis, it upsets the natural balance and can cause you to produce more oil than necessary to compensate. I know my body does this because I tend to always have to switch brands of shampoo every so often because it starts to seem like my shampoo isn't working anymore.

Less Waste: There is a lot of waste produced with all those bottles of shampoo & conditioner that the average family goes through. Even if the plastic bottles are recycled, there was a lot of energy used to produce the bottles, ship the bottles and then to recylce the bottles.

It's Cheaper: And let's face it, shampoo can get expensive. Especially when your family is growing. When I was single, I didn't mind spending more money for salon hair products. But now there are 5 heads of hair that need to be cleaned in our house!

So after all that, I still haven't explained what "no 'poo" is. It is using baking soda and apple cider vinegar (ACV) to clean your hair. When I was first introduced to "no 'poo", it was about a year ago through this article I found on the web - The No Shampoo Alternative - No Poo . I did try this method last October but stopped after about 2 weeks. At the time, I was pregnant with my third baby. In all of my pregnancies, my hair got very thick and also very greasy. I know many people loved their hair while they were pregnant - I was the complete opposite!!! I would go through so many different brands until I could finally find one that worked for my hair. So I stopped after a few weeks and told myself I would try again after my baby was born. It has been 6 months since she was born and I just finished up my bottle of shampoo yesterday, so there is no better time than today to start again!

After my first wash today with baking soda and ACV, I am very happy with the results. My hair is very soft and only a tiny bit greasy (I was expecting some since I know that there will be a transition period). Wish me luck! I hope this time goes better for me - and I will keep you all posted!

Homeowner Associations & Vinegar

We received our first official notification from our Homeowner Association of items that did not pass inspection related to our house that need to be fixed within the next month (actually there were 2 notices in the 1 envelope!). I am going to be honest with you - I am not a fan of Homeowner Associations! When I look back over the past 4 years of dealing with them, they have really done nothing but bother me and make my life more difficult. Unfortunately, where we live, basically EVERY neighborhood has one, so there is no getting away from them.
Our first "citation" was that the roof needed to be cleaned. Seeing as we just moved in about 3 weeks ago and we are only renting this house, I forwarded this one on to my landlord. I haven't heard back from him yet, but I'm leaving that one up to him to fix.

Our second "citation" was that there were weeds growing in the seams of our driveaway. The citation even came with a handy photograph of our driveaway showing where the weeds were that needed to be taken care of. To be compeletly honest, the day before receiving this notice, my husband and I were both talking about how there was some serious weeding that needed to be done outside. But frankly, we just moved a few weeks ago and I was more concerned about the inside of the house - cleaning (there was so much to do!) and unpacking. In addition, Florida during August is not exactly the best weather to spend outside weeding!

Here is what the notice stated regarding my weeds: "Please kill and remove weeds growing in the seams of your driveway, sidewalk and valley gutter. Maintain on a regular basis." Hmm, so when thinking about when I would have time to do this, my only option is to have my kids help. On first thought, it sounded like a great morning activity! I could take them outside and teach them how to weed. Then, I thought a little more about it and realized that they wanted me to kill the weeds. If you've been reading my blog for anytime now, you probably know that I try to avoid using chemicals (especially cleaning ones) around my kids. So after some googling of "safe and effective ways to kill weeds", the item that kept popping up as a safe alternative to chemical sprays from the hardware store: VINEGAR!!!!!

Well, I sprayed the vinegar two days ago and I can already see spots where the weeds are turning brown. So I can safely say that this wonderful stuff (that I use all over my house to clean) also worked to kill my weed problem. I felt so much better having my kids help me, knowing that I wasn't exposing them to any unnecessary, harmful chemicals.

I will keep you posted if this cheap, non-toxic alternative keeps working for me!

A Great Day!

Out of the blue, my 23 month old daughter says to me today that she wants to do pee-pee in the potty. Now I have not been activity trying to potty train her yet - the potty is out and we talk about it, but that's about it. I wasn't going to let her try because at the time I was on the phone with my mom, my 6 month old daughter needed a diaper change and I wanted to start cooking dinner. But then I figured, why not?

So I take off her wet diaper (I can tell she just did pee-pee) and tell her she can go sit on the potty. I figure that she thought of the potty just because her diaper just got wet. I put her diaper in the hamper, bring her a book to read, and then go change my other daughter. As I'm walking out of their bedroom, I take a peek at her and, to my surprise, I see her face all red and it looks as though she's straining.

I want to jump for joy!!!! Yes, my daughter is doing poops on the potty!!! And she did it without me ever mentioning it to her!!! Who knew that poops in a potty would eventually be what defined a "great day" for me.

Happy Anniversary!

This post today is for my husband - today we are celebrating our 6 year wedding anniversary! Part of me is amazed that it is already 6 years. Another part of me feels like we have been together forever! Here is a picture of us 6 years ago today...(boy do we look young, but I guess that is what 3 kids will do to you!)...

My husband is the best husband and father I could ever ask for. He somehow has managed to find a way to deal with my crazy personality - all of my quirks, stubborness, irrational behavior and sometimes unfair expectations of others. And not only has he found a way to deal with those, but he has also found a way to bring out the best in me.

If you had asked me 6 years ago if you thought I would be stay at home mom sitting at my dining room table today with a 6 month old staring at me in a walker, a 23 month old sitting here asking for a piece of "anniversary cake", and a 3 1/2 year old taking a nap, I would have told you that you were absolutely nuts! And most people that know me also would have thought that was crazy. I loved working as an accountant and earning my CPA license. I traveled a lot with work and worked (what I thought at the time) till all hours of the night. Having kids will definitely put those hours into perspective :)

But 6 years later, I wouldn't change a thing. My husband has fully supported me putting my career on hold while I focus on raising our 3 beautiful children. He listens when I need to vent, laughs with me (or does things to make me laugh), works all day to provide for us, makes sure I have time for myself after crazy days with the kids, and provides his shoulder to cry on when I need it.

So when we decided this year to not exchange gifts, I decided to finally make our wedding cake! You see, I had wanted to make our wedding cake 6 years ago. He, along with everyone else I mentioned it to, thought I was crazy! We didn't want to spend a ton of money on a cake (the frugal side of me taking over). When I decided (or everyone else decided for me) that I wasn't going to make it, then we decided to not have a traditional cake. Instead, we had a cake made out of Krispy Kreme donuts!

And my present to my husband this year - a cake that matches the colors of our wedding six years ago...

I still think to this day that I could have made our own wedding cake :)
